対話とは何かー効果的コミュニケーションのために
日本経営品質賞やマルコム・ボルドリッジ国家基準では「対話 DIALOGUE」の大切さを説いている。対話の中から「気づき｣を得て、全体最適になる改善に取り組むのだという。それは広義のコミュニケーション手段のひとつであるが、口先や言葉だけで行うものではなく、当事者たちの「全人格的」な相互関係の問題である。
Interpersonal Communication Skillは、アメリカの学校および社会人教育の基本である。Adult SchoolのカリキュラムにはDialogueとＤｉｓｃｕｓｓｉｏｎとDebate、そしてPresentationやBody Languageといったクラスがある。ビジネス英語のSpeakingとWritingと同様にプロのSecretaryの基本でもあり、昔、私も一緒に受講した。もちろん学校教育の現場でも基本であり、Basic Communicationというのが日本で言う「国語」教育である。英単語をそのまま書いたが、日本語にすると誤解が生じると考えるので、英単語をそのまま書いている。たとえば、Dialogue（対話）とDiscussion(議論）の違いを認識し、共通理解がなされているだろうかと危惧する。さらにいえばDebate(討論？）、Argument(議論？）などをふくめて違いを理解した上でコミュニケーションを図っているのだろうか？
日本ではこの種の対話の教育はほとんどなされてこなかったのではないか。発表能力とか説得のための技法・技能に走ってはいないだろうか。職場での活発な対話(Dialogue)から真の理解につながるコミュニケーションが効果的になされているだろうかと今一度、謙虚に問い直してみることが大切である。
